Phil is a urological surgeon with expertise in robotic and advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques and urologic cancers. He believes in individualised patient care, with a strong focus on the doctor-patient relationship. He takes the time to ensure that all patients are fully informed and are involved in the decision making process. Phil endeavours to deliver the kind of care that he would expect for his own family.
Phil graduated from the University of Melbourne with degrees in Science and Medicine & Surgery. He undertook his surgical training in Melbourne before travelling to the UK for specialist fellowship training in laparoscopic surgery, where he was involved in over 200 laparoscopic procedures.
He was then appointed consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ in London, where he undertook training in robotic surgery in addition to providing an inpatient service in stone and laparoscopic surgery.
Since returning to Melbourne, Phil has been appointed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he has helped to introduce robotic surgery and has established a robotic cystectomy program for patients with advanced bladder cancer. He also consults at the Western Hospital where he is the Training, Accreditation and Education Supervisor in urology. He operates privately at the Epworth hospital in Richmond and the Bays hospital in Mornington.
